The article examines the spatiotemporal characteristics in the work of Mexican-American writers from a feminist perspective. Despite the presence of many researches done by Ukrainian scientists, only a few scholars have studied the specifics of the chronotope in the works of cultural minorities in America, in particular, focusing on the work of the African-American writer Toni Morrison. Representatives of subtraditions have different attitudes towards space-time, using it as a lever of influence on society, a mouthpiece through which they emphasize particularly painful issues. Given their origins, they differ significantly. Thus, in Toni Morrison’s novel, the chronotope is historical, demonstrating clear parallels with the history of that time and highlighting the issues of slavery, human trafficking, and white tyranny. At the same time, writers of Mexican origin (Chicano) focus on issues of patriarchy, male dominance, and limited women’s rights. The opposition of closed/open space is relevant for Chicano writers. The article analyzes the concept of placing people according to their gender in space – male mobility in the exterior and female staticity in the interior. Ana Castillo demonstrates in her novels what fate awaits women who obey such rules, and what life is like for women who imitate white society and move towards the American dream, trying to achieve ontological balance in the pair house / home. Following Faulkner, Castillo creates a fictional country for her characters, but it has no borders and the only thing known about the nation is that they are all mestizo. In this way, questions of borderland and racism are raised. However, as in Orwell, creating a society for oneself does not mean becoming happy. Even in the absence of a white population, the mestizos themselves create conditions for a terrible life for themselves. The novel “Sapogony” sheds light on the specific geographical, historical, cultural, racial, ontological basis that marks the threshold of marginality in which the ethnic person lives in America. The writer imitates the works of romanticism, transferring the heroes to the bosom of nature, where they find peace and joy.uk_UA
