The aim of the work is a comprehensive solution to the scientific and technical problems of the effective use of the spark testing method in the production of cable products. This work investigates models of defective and non-defective insulation as a non-linear electrical load. A detailed analysis of the possibility of detecting defects using voltage of various forms and frequencies (AC HF, 50 Hz, DC, and pulse) was conducted. It is proven that it is impossible to apply control based on the partial discharge level on a production line due to the high level of background surface discharges. A block diagram of a test bench for the certification of spark testers has been developeduk_UA
