Abstract: The relevance of the study is determined by the growing number of multi-stages cyberattacks on industrial and corporate networks, which requires a shift from signature-based protection mechanisms to adaptive intelligent systems for threat analysis and forecasting. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of machine learning for detecting and forecasting cyber threats in the critical infrastructure of the energy sector and to develop an automated cybersecurity architecture. The study analysed cyber threats to energy infrastructure using cyber-event data, prepared the data, trained and compared machine learning models, and then selected the most effective models for implementing the protection system. The study established that cyber threats to critical energy infrastructure have become more complex because information networks are integrated with process control systems. Analysis of incidents in 2022-2025 indicated an increase in the number and complexity of attacks, with control systems, industrial controllers, and server infrastructure being the most vulnerable infrastructure components. A cybersecurity system based on machine learning was developed; it provides event analysis, anomaly detection, and threat forecasting. The gradient boosting model demonstrated the highest effectiveness, with classification accuracy of 96.4%, detection recall of 94.9%, and an F1-score of 95.3%. The time-series analysis model showed a strong capacity to forecast complex attacks with an accuracy of 95.2%. The integration of machine learning models reduced incident detection time to 11 minutes, response time to 39 minutes, and the false-positive rate to 6.8%. The results confirm the effectiveness of machine learning in improving the accuracy, speed, and adaptability of cybersecurity systems for critical infrastructure. The results of the study can be used by cybersecurity specialists, protection-system developers, and critical-infrastructure operators in the energy sector to improve cyber-threat detection and response.
