Abstract: In the article the author examines some issues of perception, awareness, and as a result, the ritualization of death on the examples of the cultures of the peoples of European and Latin American civilization. The author contrasts the real nature of death and approaches to the perception of death by human communities. Special emphasis is placed on the role of death as a factor used to form a correct model of behavior and as a transitional stage between different states of human existence. In addition, the author considers death as an event inherent not only to a person, but also as a stage of transformation for everything that exists.
