The tracing of the functioning of the workers' meetings as a form of social organization is an important part of the study of the Soviet model of totalitarian relations and serves as a derivative of mobilizational nature of the Soviet economy. The change of classical Stalinism into a liberal Thaw pushed the power to adjust this form of social organization in the most beneficial for it way. The purpose of the research is to analyze the trade unions' activities in the realm of political significance of the workers' meetings for the power in the mid1950's – the mid-1960's. As the previous hypothesis of the analysis, it is assumed that the workers and employees' meetings were an effective instrument for mobilizing the workers to fulfill the party-state drawings and served as an important form of its support by the society. Taking into account the political nature of the subject and object of the research, the latter's implementation is carried out within the framework of the forms and methods characteristic of political history. In the article, the reasons for the workers and employees' meetings to be included in the trade union competence are determined. The argumentative assumption about the reasons for the authorities to activate this form of social organization during the period of the Thaw is formulated. The principal difference between the general workers and employees' meetings, the meetings of trade union organizations and the production meetings of shops and enterprises is found out. The reasons for reorientation of the workers' meetings from their consideration of industrial problems to political ones are determined. The author came to the conclusion that, firstly, the power of the Thaw transformed the general workers and employees' meetings from the instrument of production management into an instrument of its political support by the broad strata of the working people. Secondly, in the connection with the above, the trade unions, in whose sphere of competence these meetings were, openly projected themselves as a defender of political interests of the authorities, which largely denied the function of protecting the interests of the working people. Thirdly, the nature of the organization and conduct of the workers' meetings by the trade unions have shown an increase in the dependence of the Thaw leaders on the general population's support of their decisions, which, at the same time, increased the significance of this civic organization for the government and further strengthened its political dependence on it
